PRESS RELEASE
For immediate release

November 5, 2015 – Ultra-Trail Harricana du Canada (UTHC), presented by The North Face, enters a new era. It is with great pride that UTHC founders announce its induction into the world’s most prestigious trail running circuit!

For us, it’s as if we have entered the NHL or NFL! announced Founding President Sébastien Côté.

Indeed, the UTHC will now belong to the same competitive family as France’s Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc, Japan’s Ultra-Trail Mt. Fuji, the United States’ Western States Endurance Run, Italy’s Lavaredo, La Réunion’s Diagonale des Fous, the Canary Islands’ Transgrancanaria, Morocco’s Marathon des Sables, and many others.

The UTHC’s induction into the Ultra-Trail® World Tour (UTWT) is a striking acknowledgment of the dedicated work of its founders along with hundreds of volunteers who, in just four years, made this event a world-quality race. We are immensely grateful to all our volunteers and athletes because they are the ones who have brought us to where we are today, said Sébastien Côté.

Incredible impact for Quebec and Charlevoix

This entry into the UTWT marks a turning point for the UTHC, according to Founder and Executive Director, Geneviève Boivin.

We can expect a greater number of high-caliber international athletes to come race here, she said. These are people who are very active on social networks and who will share their experience in Charlevoix worldwide. Imagine the exposure we’ll get!

Every year, the UTWT launches a global advertising campaign, which we will now be part of, Ms. Boivin added. For instance, the organization produces picture and video content that it broadcasts everywhere, namely on iRunFar, the worldwide reference website for our sport.

Several Americans may be attracted to come here simply because our event is now part of the UTWT. The fame of those major races will reflect on us. Moreover, we can expect the presence of a larger number of specialized journalists, business representatives and even officials Ms. Boivin explained. This represents an incredible cultural exchange for those who visit us and for us who welcome them.

Greater visibility for our cause

Founder and board of directors member, Sébastien Boivin, also welcomes the visibility that this induction will bring to the fight against multiple sclerosis, a cause for which he is a spokesman.

In four years, we have raised over $60 000 to fight this disease from which I suffer, he said. I am proud of the visibility that the UTWT will bring to this cause because it will give us a greater reach.”
